The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) has formally delivered its detailed work plan to the European Commission, advancing efforts to simplify the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The submission, made on April 25, follows the Commission’s mandate issued on March 27, 2025.

The initiative aims to streamline ESRS requirements to reduce the reporting burden on companies, while safeguarding the quality and robustness of sustainability disclosures.

Key elements of the work plan include:

  • A fast-tracked timeline, already approved by the EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board (SRB).

  • A public consultation on the Exposure Drafts, scheduled to run from late July to early September 2025.

  • Delivery of the final technical advice to the European Commission by October 31, 2025.

EFRAG’s approach builds on the experiences and feedback from companies applying the ESRS for their 2024 financial year, ensuring that the revisions are informed by practical insights from early adopters.

Reaffirming its commitment to practical, effective, and proportionate standards, EFRAG emphasized that it will maintain close collaboration with the European Commission throughout the simplification process.
