CDP and EFRAG Strengthen Collaboration for Streamlined Environmental Reporting at COP29
12 November 2024
At COP29, CDP and EFRAG announced a significant advancement in their partnership to enhance efficiency in the environmental data ecosystem. This strengthened cooperation brings the CDP’s global disclosure system into closer alignment with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), marking a pivotal step toward unified environmental reporting for companies worldwide. The collaboration, which involved joint mapping of the CDP questionnaire and ESRS climate standard (ESRS E1), revealed substantial overlaps between the two frameworks. This interoperability is expected to simplify reporting for businesses: companies reporting to ESRS E1 will be better equipped to fulfill CDP disclosures, and those disclosing via CDP will find ESRS E1 requirements more accessible. Detailed guidance on the alignment will be published ahead of the 2025 CDP disclosure cycle, easing the transition to ESRS compliance for companies across Europe and beyond. Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP, commented, “By partnering with EFRAG, we’re advancing a global disclosure ecosystem that supports both companies and data users. Our shared goal is to streamline environmental reporting and provide greater value through an efficient and unified approach.” As EFRAG’s ESRS adoption partner, CDP will play a key role in integrating ESRS-aligned data worldwide, supporting companies as they adapt to the new standards. CDP and EFRAG plan to release further mapping guidance and insights, alongside a market research project to refine future reporting requirements. This partnership is expected to ease reporting obligations, supporting global efforts to implement the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and advance sustainable business practices.
